Yeovil Half Marathon – Footfall Bonanza!

Released On 5th Nov 2015

Yeovil Half MarathonThe annual Yeovil Half Marathon will, from 20 March 2016, start and finish in Yeovil Town Centre.

President of Yeovil Chamber, David Woan, said:  “We wanted to ensure the retailers in the Town Centre could benefit from the increasing popularity of this event which is now in its sixth year.  To coincide with our campaign to attract town centre traders to Yeovil Chamber, we spotted an opportunity to show our commitment to support town centre businesses.”

As the direct result of a chance meeting with Steve Elliott, and much negotiation with Love Yeovil, SSDC, and other agencies; Yeovil Chamber and the new era of joined-up thinking brought the start & finish line of the 20.96km race into the town centre. In addition to the expected 2,000 runners, there will be local and out-of-town spectators.  It is conservatively estimated that over 4,000 people will be in Yeovil town centre on Sunday 20th March 2016.

From the 09:00 start to the final runner arriving home there is a period of around two and a half hours, during which time the spectators will want something to do while they wait in Yeovil!  To give these visitors reasons to stay in town all day (and for them to want to return), Yeovil Chamber is working closely with Total Buzz Events, SSDC, and the Love Yeovil Campaign Team to prepare a range of associated and co-ordinated attractions for that day, in order to maximise the business opportunities that will arise.
