Watly Engineering Tour June 2022
Released On 1st Jul 2022
Yesterday we were excited to take our M-Hub members on a tour of Watly Engineering based on the Lynx Trading Estate in Yeovil.
We were expertly hosted by directors Rob Holly and Mark Watts who both came from engineering backgrounds prior to setting up Watly Engineering in 2017 three units away in Unit 16.
Conversations were active and open, with members sharing their own experiences of setting up similar businesses in Somerset and the pains that success and growth can generate. Paul Sealy (Yeovil College) was on hand to give expert advice about how many manufacturers find apprenticeships and training an area of mystery. No doubt there will be more discussions to be had moving forward.
Back to Watly and Mark and Rob expertly explained how they choose to specialise in non-ferrous materials as the majority of their work is in the food and drink industry, we were shown examples of vessels, gauges and valves that demonstrated their excellence and workmanship. With a workforce that is based both in Yeovil and on clients' sites, it is clearly a busy time for Watly and there are further plans for future growth and larger projects, including larger projects similar to the ones already undertaken for customers such as Wyke Farms where they were commissioned to build a 40ft cheese iron that 'supports' the corner of the Wyke Farm warehouse.
The meeting concluded with more discussions in Watly's own 'bar' with a selection of soft drinks for drivers and some Somerset cider for those walking home.
Our thanks go to all involved for another fabulous M-Hub meeting.
