Premier Inn Vacancies
Released On 7th Jun 2016
Chamber President David Woan continues to express concerns over the unit space beneath the Premier Inn, which has remained unoccupied since the much-trumpeted renovation of the site in 2014. David said: “I have a handful of traders at the lower end of town expressing unease; not just that the unit spaces(s) remain vacant, but also that it is rumoured that a large national fast food restaurant chain is interested. One of the traders told me that a single large retailer good for the area, but another large food & drink outlet would “overcrowd the food & drink sector” in their area of town. A representative of Savills Estate Agents was able to confirm to me on 25th May that a major institutional investor has owned the site since mid-2015, and several tenancy enquiries are ongoing, one of them ‘major’.” David has also written to Marcus Fysh, asking our MP to speak with the nearby traders and the owners of the Premier Inn site, to see if he can provide more insight and create dialogue to include the traders’ concerns.
