New Rail Travel Opportunities for Yeovil
Released On 11th Mar 2016
On 13th November, Chamber President David Woan, along with Chamber Transport spokesperson Antoinette Young, attended the launch of the South West Trains reburbished 159 rolling stock launch.
David and Antoinette spoke at length with senior figures from First Great Western, which operates the Bristol-Weymouth route, and South West Trains, which operates the Exeter to Waterloo route. 13th December will see the rail link between Pen Mill and Junction stations re-opened, along with a significant increase in passenger services. These increased services and the facility to travel between Junction and Pen Mill stations cannot be overstated, and will open up a whole new range of rail travel opportunities that will bring people into Yeovil, as well as bringing South West Train services closer to Yeovil town centre.
South West Trains/Stagecoach Rail Stakeholder Engagement Manager Phil Dominey said: “We are keen to have a meeting with Yeovil Chamber of Commerce to discuss aspirations for the new franchise and how we can work together to understand member needs, and develop a train service that will result in a greater opportunity to work together.” Chamber will be following up this new stakeholder relationship opportunity, and will keep members informed of progress.
