Joining The Dots With The Local Authority

The excellent working relationship between South Somerset District Council and Yeovil Chamber continues to flourish.  Speaking in a press release from South Somerset District Council, Councillor Peter Gubbins, Portfolio Holder of SSDC Area South said: “SSDC, in partnership with Yeovil Chamber of Commerce and key business leaders are hoping to encourage more shoppers and visitors to come back to Yeovil Town Centre.  Yeovil really is open for business.”  President David Woan said: “I am really pleased that Peter and SSDC view our work as a partnership.  Our plans to create more joined-up thinking between the local authorities, the business sector continue apace, with Yeovil Chamber now officially recognised as a part of the local government decision-making process.  Currently, Chamber has a particular focus on the town centre economy, with several initiatives.  We are given an exclusive six-monthly briefing by County Highways team to allow our members a say on upcoming major road works, and quarterly briefings by the SSDC Planning Team.  Our new, BA20 Forum allows town centre retailers to meet informally with local government officials, and is already supported by the Town Council and SSDC.  We are on the Crime & Safety Team, and are a board member of the Yeovil Vision, giving the business sector a say on how the economic regeneration budget is delivered.  In September, I will be formally presenting what we do to Yeovil Town Council, who want to know what all the noise is about.  I am also currently working on a long-term project with Agusta-Westland and SSDC to make more of our aviation history as a tourist draw, giving people another good reason to visit Yeovil, and support our town centre economy.”
