Returning After a Break
Released On 26th Aug 2022
Returning to work after any sort of break can feel a bit unnerving, lots of different feelings running around, sometimes exhaustion and sometimes lots of excitement.
One thing is for sure that everyone deals with returning to work differently and we can’t expect people to jump back so easily even if they have just been off for a holiday. Your own expectations can be at different levels and what your employers are expecting too which can make for sometimes a good thing but sometimes a difficult thing.
When you return from a brilliant summer break it is important that you are clear and open about how you return to work and not to lose those fabulous memories of your holiday. Don’t feel like going back to work is all doom and gloom and if it is then it is worth taking 5 minutes out of your day to work through why this is or why you might be feeling like this.
Work is such a big part of your life, and it needs to be ok to go in his day with some positive aspects to it. It needs to be an enabler and not something which brings you down. It is always good to have those holidays or break away from work to recharge your batteries, but it also needs to be ok about returning to work.
If you have ever felt like this, then talking to someone can really help even if it is to digest what is going on.
Several years ago, I felt like this and felt the Sunday blues and lack of wanting to go to work even though it supported my holidays and activities. I knew something had to change but working this out wasn’t possible without my friends and my career coach at the time.
I have also worked with many people who have felt the same but sometimes it is just talking through things and looking what are the options. It hasn’t always been about changing or quitting the role but has been able taking some space to review the options, working through what feels like you are being held back and just having the one person who truly listens you.
Have you ever put time aside to talk through what you want, how you are feeling and what the possibilities are?
Working with a coach can really help you work through so many aspects.
“I wished I reached out ages ago but very grateful for my time with Sarah”
“Without the discussions I didn’t know what was out there for me but also how this could fit in with my family”
“I had been in a role for over 15 years and didn’t see any options but when we worked through everything my love for the role returned as I understand myself better”
