Jurassic Fibre responds to national rise in living costs and supports South West communities

Released On 24th May 2022

South West ultrafast broadband company, Jurassic Fibre, has to responded to the national rise in living costs by halving the price of their ultrafast fibre-to-the-premises broadband packages.

The announcement comes shortly after the award-winning ISP reached its key milestone of 75,000 connected premises. On a mission to enhance the digital infrastructure of the region, Exeter-based Jurassic Fibre has also revealed that two new South West locations on their network roll out have gone live. Residents and businesses in Crediton and Dorchester, now have the opportunity to receive full fibre connectivity, offering internet speeds of up to 950Mbps for homes and 10Gbps for the businesses.*

This latest expansion will see even more residents and businesses across the South West benefit from the state-of-the-art ultrafast broadband network, which has already gone live in towns and villages such as Exmouth, Honiton, Barnstaple, Sidmouth, Yeovil and Okehampton.

As their network roll out gathers pace, Jurassic Fibre has pledged to support local communities as they face significant hikes in utility bills and living costs, with energy regulator Ofgem announcing a 54% increase in the price cap to start from 1 April**. Inflation has reached its highest recorded level since 1992, affecting the affordability of household goods and services***. UK petrol prices have also seen a sharp increase while the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is set to have further implications for the UK economy.****

Jurassic Fibre has responded to the rising cost of living by launching a half price offer on all packages until 30th June 2022.

Sarah Howells, Chief Customer Officer at Jurassic Fibre, commented: “People across the South West have been particularly hit by the national increase in living costs. There is a huge regional divide on energy bill charges, with standing order charges for residents in the South West rising by double that of other areas in the UK.

“Data from the Office for National Statistics shows that over half a million people of working age in the South West are currently living in poverty, and our region has some of the most deprived areas in the UK. It is vital that we all do what we can to support those in need and address this regional disparity.

“We understand many people may feel shocked and concerned at the news of energy bills rising, so we want to do our bit to show our support for local families and help keep utility bills low by reducing our prices. Our half price offer, which is redeemable on all our packages until 30th June 2022, will make ultrafast full fibre broadband more affordable for everyone.

“We hope that local people will take advantage of our offer to help keep their household utility bills down.”

Jurassic Fibre’s network expansion is part of a £250 million investment by Fern Trading, as advised by Octopus Investments, to build a full fibre network in the South West. The network, once completed, aims to cover over 350,000 traditionally hard-to-reach premises, which have previously been overlooked by other providers, representing a potential saving to the taxpayer of circa £10m.

The company’s aim is to future-proof the broadband infrastructure in the South West for years to come, to support the growth of the region’s economy and allow rural areas to compete with big cities when it comes to broadband.

Jurassic Fibre is actively involved in supporting the local economy and communities, and recently joined forces with Exeter College and Tech South West for the first ever Esports Festival in the South West.

Sarah Howells continues: “We are delighted to have surpassed 75,000 premises in our network expansion and to go live in Crediton and Dorchester, providing many more homes and businesses with an ultrafast, full fibre broadband they can trust.

“As a local company, we recognise the needs of local communities and have made significant strides to bring the South West into the 21st Century for advanced connectivity. This latest milestone is a credit to the hard work and dedication of our fantastic Jurassic Fibre team and I hope it demonstrates our commitment to leveling up the digital infrastructure of the region with the rest of the UK.

“In recognising the fantastic work we’ve accomplished so far, we look forward to the future as we continue to expand our network and support local communities by making reliable, ultrafast broadband a reality for many across the South West.

“75,000 homes is a huge step towards our goal to connect over 350,000 traditionally hard-to-reach premises, and we can’t wait to bring advanced connectivity to even more people across the region.”
