Club captain Luke Wilkinson has set his sights on a winning start to 2022 as Yeovil Town entertain Torquay United at Huish Park this weekend.

After the 1-0 defeat against The Gulls just over a week ago, the Glovers will look to put things right when Gary Johnson's side make the trip to Somerset on Sunday afternoon.

Town saw their unbeaten run come to an end against Torquay United on Boxing Day. Despite that defeat, it has still been a productive few weeks for Darren Sarll's side and Wilkinson says they will be looking to build on that upturn in form against the side from Plainmoor.

"We were very disappointed with the result last week", said the Glovers' no.6 during his pre-match press conference.

"It wasn't how we usually perform and I think that we came away from our standards a little bit, but sometimes these things happen in football.

"Especially after the back of a loss you definitely want to get a positive result. All we are focused on now is getting a positive result and kicking on again.

"In my first two years here, we were quite good when we went down to ten men. On Sunday, we didn't handle it very well. We're fully concentrated on the next game now"

With Monday's game postponed against Weymouth due to COVID-19 cases in the Terras squad, it has allowed the team to complete a full week of training in preparation for Sunday's game.

And with over half of the league campaign still to be played and the squad aware of the necessity to reach the Vanarama National League play-offs, Wilkinson and his team are confident that they can get back to winning ways.

"Obviously the Weymouth game was off, but it's given us the opportunity to train all week. We'll train again today and go in full of confidence" he added.

"We've got a good group, a small group but a good group. We're always working hard, and we fancy our chances against anybody in this league.

"This team is built on working hard and winning our battles. Training has been intense and we're looking forward to getting back out at Huish Park.

"It's going to be another tough game. I though Torquay played pretty well the other day and we were a little bit off it. However, we're confident that we can get the tree points this time around with the fans behind us".
