HOW DO I GET A DIVORCE?

So how do I get a divorce at AmicusLaw?
If you’ve decided you want to get a divorce then now is the time to give us a call. We offer a fixed fee initial consultation for £195 plus VAT for up to 1 hour. This includes a follow up letter containing our advice too. This initial consultation allows us to hear more about your unique separation and start the process of your divorce in more personal detail.
Since the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 came in to force in April 2022, you no longer need to provide a reason for the breakdown of your marriage or civil partnership. No Fault Divorce means that couples can file for divorce or dissolution without having to place the blame on their former partner to prove the irretrievable breakdown of the relationship.
What happens next?
Divorce is usually an online process from the issue of the Application to the Final Order which formally ends your marriage. After your consultation, we will take you through the first steps of your divorce and beyond. But don’t worry, we will be guiding you through it all.
What if I’m not ready to divorce?
If you are separated but don’t feel ready to divorce or dissolve your civil partnership immediately, then there is an alternative. This is called a Separation Agreement. This confirms that you will live apart and record details of the financial arrangements that you have agreed with your former partner.
A Separation Agreement is a form of contract. They are not legally binding at this stage, however, the Court will attach considerable weight to such Agreements provided they have been created in the correct way and meet certain criteria.
