Heart of Wessex Line Closure
Released On 1st Mar 2023
Heart of Wessex Line Closure
Work is underway on the next stage of our long-term improvement works on the Heart of Wessex line from Weymouth to Yeovil Pen Mill.
Over two back-to-back five day weekday closures, our teams will be renewing the track through Thornford station, refurbishing Maiden Newton station, renewing track from Yeovil Pen Mill to Dorchester West and clearing excess lineside vegetation along the line.
Our work during this closure will see the renewal of 1,999 yards of single track, with new ballast, sleepers and rails installed, in addition to other key track infrastructure improvements for smother, more reliable train journeys.
The line will be closed between Yeovil Pen Mill and Weymouth from Monday 27 February to Friday 3 March.
The line will then reopen during the weekend, before closing between Castle Cary and Weymouth from Monday 6 to Tuesday 7 March.
The closure then shortens for the rest of the week from Yeovil Pen Mill to Weymouth from Wednesday 8 to Friday 10 March.
