Heart of Wessex Line and Weymouth
Released On 29th Nov 2021
We are now well underway with a series of line closures in the Weymouth area between 18 November and 3 December, primarily on the line to Yeovil Pen Mill, but also on the line to Wool.
To maximise our use of the line closure we are aiming to complete 31 jobs across eight different worksites. The main focus of this work will be installing more than four miles of new track between Dorchester West and Yeovil Pen Mill on the 'Heart of Wessex' line.
Alongside this, engineers will perform more wet bed removals and drainage improvements, replace sleepers, refurbish sets of switches and crossings, remove rail defects and prepare for new electrical equipment between Dorchester South and Wool.
Other improvements will be made at Upwey and Weymouth stations where will repaints platforms, remove overgrown vegetation, install tactile paving and remove litter from track, platforms and car parks, to improve our passengers' station experience and journeys.
