Elected Members join together to stand with Ukraine
Released On 30th Mar 2022
Today, our elected members came together to show how South Somerset District Council stands with Ukraine.
We are proudly flying the Ukrainian flag at our offices in Brympton Way and have installed a tribute to those who have tragically lost their lives in this conflict.
This is a visible symbol of our work to support the people of Ukraine alongside the practical work we are undertaking with partners across the county to ensure homes across the district are ready to welcome refugees as part for the Homes for Ukraine programme.
We have arranged fundraising events at our entertainment venues to raise vital funds for local charity School in a Bag’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal and the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
And we stand ready to undertake any further actions required to prepare a safe and warm welcome to those fleeing conflict.
We are aware that our elected Members alongside some of our officers are also offering support to Ukraine in a number of different ways, with some making huge sacrifices to provide humanitarian aid to those most in need.
South Somerset District Council stands with Ukraine and our work to provide vital help will continue in the coming weeks and months.
