DIGITAL DENTAL EMPLOYER ENGAGEMENT EVENT
Released On 10th Jan 2024
Regional and national employers and industry experts are invited to attend an event at Yeovil College to learn all about new and innovative Digital Dental provision currently being developed locally at Yeovil College. This is also an opportunity for employers to input int curriculum design and the development of the educational dental offer at Yeovil College.
Yeovil College currently offers two dental apprenticeship programmes: Level 3 Laboratory Technician (Dental access course), and Level 5 Dental Technician (Foundation Degree). Additionally, Yeovil College is in the process of developing a Level 6 Enhanced Clinical Practitioner (Digital).
The focus of all apprenticeships is on digital design and manufacturing. Yeovil College has extensive experience in aeronautical engineering using digital manufacturing skills and is now expanding this expertise into other manufacturing areas, including dental technology. The college successfully secured a STEM bid to support the purchase of dental laboratory digital equipment and collaborates with the West of England Institute of Technology (IoT).
There is more to dental technology than just being able to scan, design, and print or mill. Our curriculum includes knowledge and understanding of dental technology, design, and problem-solving, with a focus on the skills and competence of using digital technology.
Corrina Cooper Curriculum Area Manager for Creative Industries, said: “For apprenticeships, we are keen to include our employers in designing the knowledge content, understanding, and competence so that the course is fit for purpose. We are fortunate to work with employers who believe in the career of dental technicians and help us develop our apprentices. The course comprises 20% in the college and 80% in the workplace, emphasising the importance of working together to help develop their learning and skills.
“As the digital world is rapidly evolving, the College is in the planning stage of a Level 6 course, delivered by remote blended learning, for existing registered dental technicians to enhance their digital skills.
“We invite you to come and see our facilities, meet the staff, and become part of our project to develop dental technician education and training in the South of England.”
The Yeovil College Dental Open Event is on Tuesday, 23rd January. Refreshments will be available. To find out more, contact Corrina Cooper Curriculum Area Manager for Creative Industries: corrina.cooper@yeovil.ac.uk.
