DENTAL TRAINING RETURNS TO SOUTH WEST FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1980
Released On 11th Jul 2022
Dental training returns to the South West for the first time since the 1980s. Following a successful employer launch of dental practices and dental laboratories from around the region, Yeovil College, partnered with HEE Southwest, are reintroducing dental technician training to our local community and the South West.
Our first programme, Level 3 Laboratory technician (Dental), will launch in September 2022, followed closely by Level 5 Dental Technicians and Level 6 Enhanced Clinical Practitioner (Digital Skills).
Mark Bolton, CEO & Principal of Yeovil College said: “We are leading the way in digital dental training, with an ambition to be the most technically able college to deliver dental from level 3 to level 6 (degree-equivalent). We have made a significant investment into state-of-the-art, industry-standard technology and teaching environment, and are building a curriculum offer with experts from the industry, to ensure that future generations of dental practitioners are highly skilled and highly valued by the sector. Augmenting the traditional craft of our incredibly skilled technicians with digital capability that increases the productivity and economies of the sector, whist positively impacting patient care and reducing the carbon footprint of the sector is an incredible opportunity. We have invested in this because we can not see a single down-side.
This is an incredible time to be looking at a career within digital dentistry.”
In addition to dental technician training, Yeovil College and HEE South West dental team are working to expand their dental nurse training offer which is currently based on the level 3 dental nurse apprenticeship to include the recently added dental nurse specialisation to the health T level, and the oral health practitioner apprenticeship which provides a route of progression for existing dental nurses.
Yeovil College has made a significant investment into developing and creating state-of-the-art, industry appropriate learning environments and teaching spaces, adding to them, kit and technology that you would expect to operate in the workplace.
