Abri support Chard Reservoir Volunteer Group activities and events
Released On 6th Apr 2022
The Chard Reservoir Volunteers Group are delighted to have received £1000 worth of funding from Abri to support family events at Chard Reservoir this summer.
The Chard Reservoir Volunteer Group are a constituted group that supports the work of the SSDC ranger team by fundraising for projects and assisting with events, as well as carrying out practical site maintenance and conservation works alongside Countryside Ranger, Hannah Stanton, and Kickstart Trainee Assistant Ranger, Jack Newton.
The funding that Abri have awarded to the volunteer group will be used to deliver some free family events this spring and summer. The events will focus on wildlife and the environment found at the reservoir.
A 'Guide in the Hide' will be held on Tuesday 12 April to help families discover which birds call Chard Reservoir their home; who will be able to spot a fast flying kingfisher or a dancing grebe?
In May half term, join the rangers for willow weaving activities – willow is plentiful at the reservoir and we will use it to create some magnificent crafts.
The Abri funding will also be used to purchase bug hunting nets, pond dipping trays and identification guides. We hope you will join us in the summer to try them all out as we, once again, host our popular Bug Bonanza event.

Chairman of the Chard Reservoir Volunteer Group, John Middleton, says “This is a wonderful opportunity for the group to upgrade the children’s play area and put on additional outdoor events for the local community.”
Countryside Ranger, Hannah Stanton, says “I am very grateful to Abri for their generous donation, which will be put towards holding more family focused events down here at the reservoir. I am passionate about educating children about wildlife and the environment in a fun and accessible way and so, with this money, I hope that we can do just that and get more of the younger generation interested in their local nature reserve and the great outdoors.’
