A371 set for urgent drainage and resurfacing works

A key Somerset road is the focus for important repairs this summer to protect the surface from flooding and ice during the winter months.
Somerset County Council's Highways Team is replacing drainage channels and gullies which are badly deteriorated on a stretch of the A371 near Wincanton in readiness for adverse weather.
The work is due to commence on 25 July and will need to be carried out under a road closure in Holbrook near Wincanton, just south of Bratton Seymour, for five weeks, to ensure the safety of the public and workforce.
The work is being undertaken during the school summer holidays when the traffic is much lighter.
The closure will be in place from 25 July to 26 August and will be 24/7.
Access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout.

Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset County Council’s Executive Lead Member for Transport and Digital said: “It’s vital we get this work done before the winter when there’s the ever-present danger of surface water and ice.
“We do understand there will be disruption and our team will do everything they can to minimise this. Carrying out the work under a closure during the summer holidays when traffic is significantly lighter is the best option.
“Our team will be in touch with residents and businesses in the immediate area to ensure they have all the information they need.”
