South Somerset Community Transport

South Somerset Community Transport

Community Transport South West Ltd was established in April 2007. The organisation started life in October 1981 as Yeovil & District CVS operating with 1 minibus with tail-lift and a private car. Since that time the charity has evolved and now operates a fleet of 15 wheelchair accessible minibuses, over 40 volunteer car drivers (using their own vehicles), as well as 3 Slinky Bus routes covering areas of South Somerset.

Last year we undertook over 24,000 journeys for individuals and community groups. This includes medical appointments and social activities; e.g. shopping, day trips, as well as providing support to local care homes and transporting day care residents with dementia (as well as medical and social issues).

Community Transport South West Ltd also operates School Transport for children with physical and mental learning difficulties; this covers children from as young as 4 up to 18.

With an increasing number of elderly people living in the rural community and a decline in state funding of other service providers e.g. patient transport. This, combined with the introduction of specialist centres within the NHS - and patients able to choose a location in order to reduce waiting times - has caused and will continue to cause, an increase in the demand for our services, both in the number of requests for transport and for journeys over a larger geographical area.
